We love making books, and we love teaching bookbinding classes to adults and children.
We will travel to your classroom to show your fifth-graders how to make a sturdy notebook, or we will invite you into our peaceful, intimate studio for a one-on-one lesson on traditional binding techniques.
Regardless of the project, you will depart with a deeper appreciation and broader knowledge of technical bookbinding. You will also have at least one gorgeous, hand-bound book or box to show your friends and family.

Bookbinding classes we offer:
Beginning Bookbinding: $175.00
Time: 2 hours
Learn: Basic tools, techniques, and terminology
Make: 1 Hand sewn pamphlet stitch booklet, 1 Soft cover ribbon bound journal
Bring: Two hands, a creative mind, and patience
Bookbinding Two: $425.00
Time: 5 hours (with a 20 minute break)
Learn: Advanced binding techniques, use of binding machinery, hardcover structures, recessed windows for inset artwork
Make: 1 Japanese stab bound sketch book, 1 Case bound library binding journal
Bring: Bookbinding tools if you have them, any decorative paper or printed text you wish to incorporate into your books
Custom Fitted Slipcase: $245.00
Time: 3 hours
Learn: Make a protective case to house an existing book structure
Make: 1 custom fitted, lined slipcase with recessed front window
Bring: One of your favorite hardcover books, bookbinding tools if you have them, any decorative paper you may wish to use
Traditional Archival Box Making: $425.00
Time: 5 hours (with a 20 minute break)
Learn: Construct a snug box that houses loose ephemera or printed pages
Make: Either a clamshell box or a lidded box with ribbon lift (please choose one in advance)
Bring: Bookbinding tools if you have them, any decorative paper or printed text to incorporate into the box

We cater our instruction to any skill and ability level and can provide class supplies and tools.
Instruction rates start at $75.00 per hour plus materials.
